David O'Neill, writing coach and editor

Work with me.

I work with essayists, critics, memoirists, journalists, and novelists. Whether you’re stuck on a draft, shaping a book proposal, revising a manuscript, or trying to find your way into a piece, I can help.

Experience

I've taught writing classes as a guest instructor at the School of Visual Arts, New York University, the New School for Social Research, and led courses at Chelsea Hodson’s Morning Writing Club, and Catapult. As a coach, I’ve worked at Wave Literary and Idea Architects, and am currently a faculty advisor at Gilliam Writers Group

Sessions are an hour. We start by catching up on the project or whatever you’ ve been wrestling with on the page. Then we get to work: writing or editing, brainstorming, talking about structure, and reading lines out loud. We close by figuring out next steps for the week ahead. You can read what my clients have said about my coaching here.

Coaching includes email between sessions: I can give quick feedback on pitches and answer questions. I’ ll also read up to 1,000 words a week, with a $0.02-per-word reading fee for anything longer. You’ re welcome to send writing before our first session, too.
